The Wright House

2024 Miller-Jinright Award
Dr. Craig Clark

The Greek Revival Wright House was constructed in 1854 by the president of the local women’s college, and was purchased by Mr. Wright, mayor of Fletcherville and president of Thomasville
National, in 1856. The house was maintained by members of the Wright family until the mid- 1970s and then fell into disrepair. The property was later occupied by Gecko Gardens, an in- town nursery with the house used as Garden Center retail space. The site was acquired by Dr. Clark in 2022 who immediately began building rehabilitation. Rehabilitation work included installation of new systems, in-kind rehabilitation of plaster walls and ceilings, and the construction of a rear wing which creates interior living space honoring the house’s antebellum styling.
