On Saturday morning, September 12, 2026, Landmarks, in partnership with Pebble Hill Plantation, will host author Beth Yarbrough for a special program focused on historic preservation, local history, and community engagement. This event will begin at 10am at Pebble Hill Plantation’s Learning Center.
Yarbrough is the author of the recently published book, The Grassroots Guide to Saving What Matters: Historic Preservation for Everyday People, a user-friendly handbook designed to engage and empower individuals interested in preserving the historic structures and places within their own communities.
“In the course of my travels across the South for Southern Voice, I became acutely aware of the need to make the subject of historic preservation more approachable for all, which provided the impetus for this book,” said Yarbrough.
A writer living in North Carolina, Yarbrough spent more than three decades working in the gift and home décor industry with licensed art and product design credits to her name before setting out on a journey that inspired her writing career. Eleven years, thousands of miles, and tens of thousands of words and photographs later, she continues exploring the stories, people, and places that define the South.
Guests attending this special event will be able to purchase the highlighted book ($12.95) and enjoy a special Q&A session with local preservationists. A book signing, followed by a walking tour highlighting several preservation projects across Pebble Hill’s main grounds will follow. Landmarks’ representatives, and local preservationists, will also participate in tour discussions, offering additional insight into the importance of historic preservation efforts within the community.
The program will offer attendees a meaningful opportunity to explore local history, preservation initiatives, and stories that connect communities to their past while encouraging future stewardship.
