Lori Weldon
The Swan Cottage, located at 121 N. Love Street, was constructed by Maynita Arnold and her new husband John Hamilton Swann c. 1908. Though information in the 1910 census is unclear, there is reason to believe the Swans and Maynita Arnold’s mother, Emma Arnold, moved in during 1909. In February 1912, Emma Arnold offered the house for sale, following the death of her daughter from tuberculosis.
The house is a Georgian-style cottage associated with 18th-century English Georgian architecture. Design features include an off-center front door, a side elevation projecting bay, leaded glass transom windows with hoods, and a wrap-around porch.
Ms. Weldon’s rehabilitation included replacement of electrical and plumbing systems, roof replacement, floor refinishing, and repair of the house’s foundation. The kitchen was modernized with a master bath installed on the first floor. A new guest bath located upstairs.
