2024-2025 Award of Stewardship
Constructed in 1910 for Standard Oil’s John D. Archbold, Chinquapin Plantation was among Thomas County’s finest winter homes. New York architect AS Bell designed the property for entertaining and enjoyment of the outdoors. The property has been acquired by Greenwood and Chinquapin Properties who valued the property’s heritage and architectural wealth despite recognizing the lack of care given the property over many years.
Rehabilitation included complete reconstruction of two of the main house’s exterior walls (interior, exterior, and framing) which were failing due to water infiltration, the complete restoration of the main house’s billiard room, and reclaiming of the house’s marble flooring which had been covered in wall-to-wall carpeting.
Complete renovations were also made to the Manager’s House, the Assistant Manager’s House, as well as to the property’s Gate House.
