Heather & Kelly Abbott
In 1878, Thomasville’s Free Masons began construction of a two-story brick building at the corner of S. Broad Street and Remington Ave. Over many years, the property housed multiple businesses – Thomasville’s Masonic Lodge, Western Auto, and later still the building housed Jimmy’s Sew and Vac. In 2021, the property was acquired by Kelly Abbot and Heather Kirkland Abbott, granddaughter of Jimmy Kirkland, owner of Jimmy’s Sew and Vac. The Abbott’s applied for historic tax credits and worked tirelessly to reclaim the building’s interior and exterior spaces.
Though a portion of The Mason’s first floor space remained occupied, the building was underutilized for many decades, leading to roof collapse and interior plaster damage. The rehabilitation involved replacing all exterior windows, installing new systems, and replacement of the building’s roof. The Mason is now occupied by two first floor retailers with office suites installed throughout the second floor.
