Eddie and Dawn Wheeler
The house located at 314 Young Street was constructed c. 1896, and for many years was used as rental property. Over the years, the house was occupied by several families, coming into the ownership of the Watkins family in the late 1990s. An electrical fire occurred to the rear of the house, rendering the property inhabitable. The property was purchased in July 2019 by Dawn and Eddie Wheeler who determined to rehabilitate the house and to make it their personal residence. The arrival of the COVID pandemic halted building renovation.
In 2023, the Wheelers began work in earnest, requiring a year-and-a-half to complete the project. As the fire badly damaged the rear of the house, the rear addition was removed and a 2-story rear wing erected. Early in the project, the Wheelers determined their rehabilitation would reflect the house’s late-19th century design. Careful attention was given to replacing windows, doors, and recreating the 12” baseboard located on the house’s first floor.
